Welcome to Shifting 2 Sicily

December 10, 2025

Shifting 2 Sicily follows a newly married couple, Chris and Julie, in their second marriage as they radically rethink how they want to live the rest of their lives. When a genetic test revealed that Julie carries an Alzheimer’s related gene, everything changed: work, priorities, and what “time” really means. Out of that wakeup call came a decision to seek a slower, more intentional life in Sicily, focused on health, wellness, language, and purpose. From their current home in South Philadelphia, with their two pups, Chuckie and Lina, they research and plan a future in Italy—learning Italian, connecting with the Philadelphia America Italy Society, and building community via social media long before they ever get on a plane. With careers in higher education administration and two sets of grown children, they share the emotional, practical, and financial realities of starting over abroad in midlife. The twist: they have absolutely no clue if they can really pull all of this off, but they are willing to figure it out in public and bring you along for every win, wobble, and course correction. On Shifting 2 Sicily you’ll find:

>Honest conversations about genetic risk, brain health, and designing a lifestyle that supports longevity and lowers stress.
>Deep-dive research on visas, housing, costs, and everyday life in Sicily, explained clearly and accessibly.
>Italian language and culture episodes, from beginner practice to integrating into local communities.
>Reflections on second marriages, blended families, and staying close to adult children while planning an international move.
>This channel is fueled by curiosity, spreadsheets, and a lot of latenight idea sessions, with a special nod to AI tools like Perplexity and Grok that help this research-loving couple think through options, organize information, and plan the next brave step.

Subscribe if you are curious about Italy, midlife reinvention, or turning a difficult diagnosis or genetic result into a catalyst for a more meaningful, intentional life—and if you’re okay with the fact that none of this is guaranteed to work, but the journey will be real!

Ciao and grazie mille!
